Due to the increased number of accidents involving cyclists and cars, especially those involving children, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s
Office will be stepping up enforcement of vehicle codes pertaining to bicycles in Saratoga, Cupertino, Los Altos Hills, Hwy 9, and Summit
road areas. The enforcement campaign will last from August 19 through September 4.
Some of the violations the Sheriff’s Office it looking to enforce:
• Cyclists not stopping at lights and stop signs.
• Riding two abreast on roads
• Cyclists not riding along the right side of the road.
This type of irresponsible riding is a danger to all people sharing the road and gives kids the impression that it is okay to do.
It is time for adult riders to set the example! Your participation is greatly appreciated and required by law (CVC 21200 (a)). The Sheriff’s
Office will be enforcing violations committed by cyclists, in an effort to increase awareness, educate the public, and provide increased
safety. Cyclists, just like motorists, must obey all Vehicle Code regulations.
