On June 30 Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested 36-year-old Rogelio Ruiz (DOB 3-18-1970) for allegedly attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl in unincorporated Gilroy.
At approximately 7:10 pm, Deputies responded to an unincorporated Gilroy address on a 911 hang up. Upon their arrival, the male who called 911 told them that a man later identified as Ruiz had possibly attacked the 12-year-old girl at her home.
Deputies responded to the 12-year-old girls house. Upon arrival they observed Ruiz fleeing the scene. Deputies chased Ruiz to a field. Ruiz resisted arrest but was apprehended and taken into custody.
Ruiz was booked into main jail on charges of attempted rape, oral copulation with a person under 14 years old, sexual penetration by foreign object, residential burglary, and resisting arrest. He faces a minimum of 80 years to life if convicted of these crimes.
Ruiz is scheduled to be arraigned today at 1pm at the South County Courthouse in San Martin.
