On May 2, at approximately 4 am, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Deputies located a three-month-old kidnapped boy in unincorporated Morgan Hill. The baby was in good health and unharmed.
Tulare Police Department had alerted the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office that it had tracked down the suspected kidnapper, Linda Pope, 52 of Tulare, to the San Jose area.
On April 25, Pope had baby-sat the baby for a Tulare couple while they went out for an evening. Pope did not return the baby at the agreed upon time and the couple reported the kidnapping to the Tulare Police Department..
Pope had taken a vehicle from the Church group in Tulare where she was staying. She drove to San Jose and picked up 36-year-old Bahadur Singh, who was released from Main Jail on drunk in public charges. Pope and Singh had dated in the past, and Pope was able to convince Singh that the baby was his.
The couple took the baby to Singh’s sister’s house in unincorporated Morgan Hill, where Pope presented the baby as theirs. Singh’s sister took them in and offered to help the couple get back on their feet.
Tulare Police Department was able to track down Singh’s sister’s house and requested the assistance of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office in making contact at the location. Sheriff’s Deputies observed Pope’s vehicle in the driveway. Pope, Singh and the baby were discovered in the house. Paramedics were summoned to the scene for a check up on the baby boy. They advised Sheriff’s Office Deputies that the little boy was in good health and unharmed. Singh’s sister and her husband were unaware that Pope had kidnapped the baby boy.
Tulare Police Department arrested Pope and Singh on kidnapping charges and is transporting them to Tulare to continue their investigation. The baby boy will be reunited with her parents later on today.
