January 3, 2006 – The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office had over 525 people utilize the “Second Chance” warrant redemption program and over 650 warrants have been cleared.
“This program has allowed many people to take care of their outstanding warrants during the Holiday Season” stated Lieutenant James Keith of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Warrants division. “We are very pleased with the results, and will be looking into implementing similar programs in the future.”
Operation: “A Second Chance” ran December 1st through December 31st 2005. Individuals were able to come to the Sheriff’s Office Records Division, located at the main Sheriff’s Office building at 55 W. Younger Avenue in San Jose, to receive their warrant citation. A “Promise to Appear” in court at a future date was issued to individuals whose warrants fell within the guidelines of Operation: “A Second Chance.”
Operation: “A Second Chance” was directed towards all misdemeanor warrants, no matter what the bail amount, including those warrants stamped “No Cite and Release,” “No Walk-Over,” and “Post and Forfeit.”
Felony warrants or any warrants involving violence were not eligible for this program.
