Saratoga Homicide Suspect Found Guilty

San Jose - Suspect Nan Yang, was found guilty of second-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and battery in Santa Clara County Superior Court today. She will face the sentencing phase, on a yet undisclosed date, in October.

Original Incident on  03-15-05:

At 10:08 A.M., Deputies were dispatched to the 14000 block of Fieldstone Dr. in Saratoga for a possible suicidal woman.  Upon arrival at the residence, Deputies saw a woman (later identified as suspect Yang) on the 3rd story balcony, cutting herself with a knife and threatening to jump off the balcony.  As Deputies attempted to verbally calm Yang down, she straddled the balcony and continued to cut her self. The Deputies inside the residence retreated back down the stairs.  Once downstairs, they discovered the lifeless body of homeowner Birk McCandless. He had been stabbed to death. At about 10:55 A.M., Yang passed out due to loss of blood.  Deputies disarmed her and paramedics transported her to the local hospital.
