The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department is hosting its 15th Annual Best In The West S.W.A.T. Competition. The two-day event, attracting top S.W.A.T. teams from California, Washington, and Nevada will be held at the Sheriff's Range in San Jose on Thursday and Friday, September 22rd and 23th.
A special attraction at this year’s competition will be the visual updates of Northern California’s first "Situational Training Facility" donated by the Sheriff’s Advisory Board (S.A.B.), which is now in Phase III of the building process.
The event is closed to the public due to safety and liability concerns, but local and national news media will be allowed to cover the competition. At least 25 S.W.A.T. Teams will compete in seven events including The Jungle Trail, The Sniper Course, and a Live Fire House in which live ammunition is used. The events are scored by points to determine which S.W.A.T. Team is the "Best In The West."
While the nationally recognized competition is fierce, Best In The West breeds a special camaraderie among the elite special teams and serves as a workshop to share techniques and improve performance.
The annual competition is widely covered by local media and national law enforcement publications. The range will be available for news media to preview on the day of the event.
Sheriff Laurie Smith views her S.E.R.T. unit with great pride, not only for their own standard of excellence on S.W.A.T. risk-reduction operations they have performed, but for their dedication and professionalism in managing Best In The West.
Maxim Integrated is the primary sponsor of this event. The Sheriff's Advisory Board's contributions are also a big help in making the Best In The West Competition possible.
