On May 16 Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested three suspects for allegedly stringing a rope across a roadway, causing severe bodily injury to a passing motorcyclist. Los Gatos residents Donald Bryant, age 62, Donna Olsen, age 46 and Edward Anderson, age 48 were arrested on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Battery with Serious Bodily Injury.
On May 6 at approximately 8 pm, a group of dirt bikers were returning home on Loma Chiquita road following a ride in the hills. Bryant, Olsen and Anderson had tied a rope to a tree on one side of the road and waited, in bushes, on the other side. As the first motorcyclist approached the rope, at approximately 20-25 miles per hour, the trio pulled the rope taut on the other side of the road. The motorcyclist was struck by the rope in the jaw area and was thrown backwards off his motorcycle.
As the second rider approached the scene, he observed his riding companion lying on the ground on top of his motorcycle. The second rider slowed his motorcycle to 5 miles per hour and as he was coming to a stop, observed two of the suspects pull taught the same rope that had knocked his friend off his motorcycle. The second rider was able to stop in time and received only minor injuries from contact with the rope.
The original victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose where he was in a comatose state for five days. Due to severe bone damage and tissue loss, he required over 500 stitches, as well as several titanium plates inserted in his face.
Anyone with further information on this case is asked to contact Sheriff’s Office Detective Dean Baker at (408) 808-4500.
