On Thursday, August 2, 2007, the Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) conducted an eradication operation in the area of Moody Rd at Page Mill Road, in the unincorporated of Los Altos Hills. With the assistance of STAR 1, the Sheriff’s helicopter, several gardens were noticed from the air, signaling a need to conduct further investigation. Once the areas were identified, the operation focused on the removal of nearly 32,000 plants growing in secreted gardens on a piece of private property.
Unbeknownst to the owner, several hundred feet of irrigation pipe had been laid out to support the growing operation along with fertilizers, pesticides, and rat poisons. Nearly mature, the plants have been destroyed before making it to our streets. A fully mature plant has an estimated street value of four thousand dollars.
During the operation, one handgun was located inside the garden. The handgun is suspected to have been left behind recently given its current condition.
The Marijuana Enforcement Team is operated out of the Special Operations Division inside the Sheriff’s office. Anyone with information or tips regarding the location of potential marijuana gardens is encouraged to call the Special Operations office at 408-808-4770.
