Basic SWAT Course Dec 2-13, 80 hrs. (0800-1700), San Jose; $800
THIS COURSE IS FULL.
This course is designed to be introductory training for individuals who are assigned to a SWAT-Tactical Team. Topics address the basic concepts of SWAT and include practical applications and problem solving simulations as effective learning methods. This course meets the P.O.S.T. SWAT operational guidelines and standardized training recommendations. See flyer for equipment requirements. POST Plan IV.

Sponsored by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and Santa Clara County Department of Mental Health,
will provide peace officers and dispatchers with the skills and knowledge to recognize individuals with
mental illness, identify potential disorders, and minimize escalations in contacts with mentally ill
individuals. Training focuses on developing techniques for approaching the mentally ill
(including individuals with developmental disabilities), communication, de-escalation, and
listening skills, suicide risk factors, the "SUICIDE BY COP" phenomenon, cultural issues,
case study presentations, community resources, and officer wellness.
