Last modified: 3/7/2012 10:34 AM

The Adoption Assistance Program (AAP) is a federal program of financial assistance for adoptive children. The amount of Adoption Assistance benefit is based on the needs of the child at the time the Adoptive Placement Agreement is signed. Adopted children who were dependents of the Court are usually qualify for Adoption Assistance benefits. Children who qualify for AAP benefits are also eligible for medical assistance through Medi-Cal. Other adopted children who are not dependents may not be eligible for AAP. For examples children adopted through an independent adoption, voluntary relinquishment or stepparent adoption may not be eligible for Adoption Assistance benefits.
