Africanized Honey Bees (AHB)

Africanized honey bees (AHB) are dispersing northward in California. In July 2006, a hive of AHB was found  on the border between San Benito and Santa Clara County. We, at the SCC Vector Control District, are teaming up with the Santa Clara County Department of Agriculture to provide information to the public. AHB background, biology, economic impact and facts can be found under the section of Insect ID & Management.

If you know of the location of a feral (wild) honey bee hive or swarm, please notify us at (408) 918-4770, so that we may take a sample for our AHB wing length database.
