As part of a pavement rehabilitation program that the Board of Supervisors authorized last year, the San Martin and Reid-Hillview airports runways and taxiways will be resurfaced in the very near future.
The project will consist of digging out areas of failed asphalt, crack sealing the surfaces, removing the existing pavement markings, installing a microsurface on top of the existing repaired and sealed surfaces and then replacing all the surface markings. At both airports, the new runway markings will change to including the markings for a non-precision instrument approach. In addition, at RHV we will be adding surface painted taxiway directional markings and reflectors for taxiway Z.
The project is going to cause significant disruption at both airports and we ask for your patience as we work through this much-needed project.
San Martin will be closed to all air traffic between May 3rd and May 10th.
Reid-Hillview construction will run from May 2nd through May 25th with different phases of taxiway and runway closure. Our intent is to keep the airport open during construction, but there will be limited availability for local / touch-and-go traffic. In addition, RHV will be closed at night between May 13th and May 25th while work is completed on runway 31R - 13L.
If you would like to relocate your aircraft for any part of the construction, please contact Airport Operations Supervisor at 408-918-7700 x27707 or Femi.Odubaku@rda.sccgov.org

RHV Terminal Building Bathrooms
As anybody who has been in the RHV terminal lately knows, the restrooms have been out of commission for a while. Serious problems were discovered with the underground sewer lines which resulted in an open trench running from the manhole cover in the road all the way through both restrooms. The sewer lines have been replaced, walls have been patched and everything repainted. A new floor is currently being installed followed by installation of the fixtures. We should have working restrooms by the end of next week.
We took this opportunity to switch out the men’s and women’s restroom which allowed us to add an additional stall to the men’s room while keeping the same number of facilities for the women’s room. We hope this will reduce the number of times that a line forms for the men’s room.
