The Clerk-Recorder's General Index indexes all property records (deeds, mortgages, chattel mortgages, land patents, homesteads, etc.) This index exists from all property records from 1850 to present. This online database includes entries from the General Index ranging from 1856 to 1866. This database will be continuously updated.

Each entry includes the grantor (property seller), grantee (property buyer), date transaction was recorded, type of record (deed, mortgage, homestead, etc.), and book and page number. The original property record can be viewed at the Clerk-Recorder's Office or the Archives. Additional information about any property record may be obtained by contacting the Archives by e-mail or phone, or contacting the Clerk-Recorder's Office at (408) 299-5688 or ClerkRecorder@rec.sccgov.org.

To find an entry, type search criteria in the text box and press ENTER or click SEARCH. If the number of responses fills more than one page, use the drop box in the middle of the screen to select the specific page you would like to view. To limit your search results, enter multiple search criteria (e.g. holt 1906).
