Mission Statement

Our Mission is to meet the many unmet needs of clients in our county, such as  peer support, advocacy, meaningful jobs, and other needs. We focus on providing services with respect, dignity and caring as we work through difficult issues that arise and we focus on the wellness and recovery efforts of all.

Program Description

The Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA) is a diverse multifaceted program. This consumer run program is dedicated to transformation through instigating, advocating, being involved with, and implementing changes to the mental health system. Consumer staff is actively involved in service delivery in many peer support and advocacy programs. We operate three Self-Help Centers throughout the County and;

  • Advocate for consumers by participating and speaking out at Behavioral Health Board and other mental health meetings throughout Santa Clara County.
  • Publish a grassroots newsletter titled Our Voice in order to give voice to consumers, educate consumers and others about recovery, and inform the mental health community about programs and activities.
  • Provide specialized peer support for older adults whose mental health and other needs often go unmet through our innovative new Older Adult Peer Support (OAPS) program;
  • Work alongside clinicians, doctors, rehabilitation counselors and community workers as clinic peer mentors providing both individual and group Peer Support Services.
  • Transitional Age Youth (TAY) is youth between the ages of 16 - 25 who are launching from adolescence into young adulthood. The intent of the Behavioral Health TAY System of Care is to provide resources and strategies to assist this population in being able to successfully transition into the adult world.
