County of Santa Clara Updates Reporting Methodology for COVID-19 Testing Dashboard

The County of Santa Clara updated the methodology for displaying testing data on its data dashboard. Previously, the dashboard displayed the count of new individuals tested each day. The dashboard now displays the count of tests completed each day. Both count of individuals tested and count of tests completed remain valid measures of COVID-19 response activity and the County continues to track both; however, the latter better measures activities in support of the County’s May 15 guidance that many individuals such as frontline workers be tested regularly.

Previously, an individual was included in the testing data dashboard only once. Additional tests were not included. Now, an individual will be included in the testing data dashboard each time they receive a test.

The Public Health Department dedicates significant resources to robust data collection and analysis, part of the County’s commitment to transparency and sharing data with the public. Data methodology will continue to be updated as needed, to match evolving community activities and response. The COVID-19 dashboard will continue to be updated daily with the most current information available.
