FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 13, 2020
Today, the Governor took bold statewide action to respond to the rapid and troubling growth of COVID-19 cases and
hospitalizations across California. Reducing transmission statewide is critical to controlling the
pandemic. According to the State’s website (covid19.ca.gov):
Effective immediately, California closes some indoor business operations statewide
and additional indoor operations in counties on Monitoring List for 3 consecutive days. Statewide indoor
closures include restaurants, bars and breweries, wineries & tasting rooms, movie theaters, family
entertainment centers, zoos and museums, and cardrooms. County indoor closures include fitness centers, places
of worship, indoor protests, offices for non-critical infrastructure sectors, personal care
services, hair salons and barbershops, and malls. County closures apply to counties that have been on
the County Monitoring List for 3 consecutive days.
The County of Santa Clara was added to the State’s monitoring list on Sunday July 12, 2020. In light of the
Governor’s announcement, the County sought clarification on the effect of today’s announcement in our County.
The State confirmed this afternoon that it will require sectors closed for indoor operations in counties on the
monitoring list to close in Santa Clara County effective Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. We wanted to
share this information with businesses and residents as soon as possible. The chart below provides information

All businesses in the community must follow this directive from the State. All businesses, including those
operating solely outdoors, must also continue to follow the requirements of the local order, including by creating
and posting a Social Distancing Protocol. We will provide additional information to the community as soon as it
becomes available.
“The fight against COVID-19 is unfortunately far from over, but our residents and businesses have shown how we can
collectively make an extraordinary difference in saving lives and safeguarding our community,” said County of Santa
Clara Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody. “We strongly urge everyone to rigorously and consistently follow the State
and local health orders.”
