Cortese Calls for Federal Disaster Aid
On Wednesday, I sent an urgent request to Governor Gavin Newsom asking for his help in adding Santa Clara County to the Presidential Major Disaster Declaration because of the damage in the County caused by the SCU Fire. The SCU Fire is the second largest fire in the state’s history and is not yet eligible for FEMA aid. I want to thank our local state lawmakers State Senator Jim Beall and State Assemblymember Ash Kalra for also calling on the Governor to add Santa Clara County to this Disaster Declaration.

CalFire Releases Map and Expanded Evacuation Areas
As fires continue to burn in Santa Clara County and surrounding counties, we will try to keep you updated with the latest information on locations, evacuation orders and warnings. In Santa Clara County, the SCU Lightning Complex fires are burning in the eastern part of the county while major fires burn in Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties, known as the CZU August Lightning Complex Fire. At 4:00 p.m. today, CAL FIRE issued a new evacuation warning for expanded areas of Santa Clara County. Today, CAL FIRE created an evacuation map that they are continually updating.

We write again to update you on the latest evacuation orders and warnings in Santa Clara County. In Santa Clara County, the SCU Lightning Complex fires are burning in the eastern part of the county while major fires burn in Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties, known as the CZU August Lightning Complex. Evacuation orders have been issued in parts of eastern Santa Clara County.
