Does the County accept partial payments of property taxes?

Yes. The County accepts partial payment of property taxes. If you cannot pay in full, continue making partial payments until the balance of the base tax is paid in full and no later than June 30, 2020. ​Penalties will be applied to the unpaid balance beginning July 1, 2020.​

Will penalties and cost be waived as a result of late payments?

The County of Santa Clara is waiving the 10% penalty and $20 cost associated with the second installments of property taxes which were due on April 10, 2020.

You are not required to submit a Penalty Cancellation Form to cancel the 10% penalty and $20 cost for the second installment of property taxes.

You can still submit a request for cancellation of penalties for property taxes from previous installment periods.​​​​​​​​​

I've already submitted a request to cancel my penalty, when and how will I know if a decision has been made?

As decisions are made, the ‘Additional Charges’ column on the payment site will be updated. Taxpayers will also receive an email or a letter from DTAC to notify them of the decision of the Tax Collector.​​​​​​​​​​​​​

How can I make my payment if the office is closed during shelter in place?

Taxpayers are encouraged to use electronic payment channels, as in-person payments are suspended during the shelter-in-place order. Electronic payments are accepted on DTAC’s website or on DTAC’s mobile app–SCC DTAC. Electronic check payments are free. If paying with a credit or debit card, a service fee of 2.25% of the transaction is charged by the payment vendor. Checks made payable to SCC DTAC can also be mailed to 70 W Hedding Street, San Jose, CA 95110.

Can the County waive the 2.25% service fee due to COVID-19?

The County cannot waive the 2.25% service fee for credit/debit card transactions. The fees are charged by our payment vendor to facilitate the transaction.
