Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is violence directed at an individual based on biological sex, gender identity or socially constructed norms of femininity and masculinity and is a result of the imbalance of powe​r among the genders.  It can manifest itself in the form of intimate partner violence,  sexual violence, human trafficking, child marriage and/or genital mutilation, to name a few.  These acts are violations of  basic human rights that affect health and economic outcomes for individuals and the entire community. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
