What is the Step In, Speak Up module?
+
Step In, Speak Up! is a 30-minute module that provides both didactic instruction on LGBTQ terminology as well as two conversation simulations that help prepare users to lead real-life conversations with students to curtail harassment and support those who may be struggling as a result of bullying or isolation. Users will learn how to respond to biased language, address harassment in the classroom, and support a young person experiencing mental health issues, including suicidal ideation.
How long will it take to complete the online training?
+
The module itself will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. However, we advise that you set aside an hour to debrief and explore next steps and resources.
What ages of youth does the training module cater to?
+
The training module focuses on scenarios most relevant to middle and high school educators and staff. However, educators and volunteers serving all ages will benefit from the content as well.
What is the best environment to have teachers and staff take this training?
+
While this online training can be taken in any environment, we recommend that staff and teachers take this during professional development or staff meeting sessions. We have found this to be the most effective way for participants to complete the training and begin important conversations surrounding LGBTQ experiences on campus
