The Santa Clara County Mental Health Call Center is the centralized entry point for individuals who are seeking behavioral health services in Santa Clara County.
General information, appointments, and referrals are available during business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Mental Health Call Center can be contacted regarding a behavioral health crisis that you or a family member might be experiencing after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Staff will talk with you to clarify what your behavioral health needs are. The Mental Health Call Center will link you with the appropriate behavioral health service, county services or referrals to community services.

The primary function is to provide a 24-hour telephone service which

  • screens for behavioral health needs
  • directs callers to programs and services that are suitable for meeting their needs
  • authorizes Fee-for-Services Medi-Cal visits

In addition, the Call Center provides telephone crisis intervention response to callers in an acute behavioral health crisis, attempting to stabilize them until a crisis counselor or other crisis services provider can intervene to provide more extensive or specialized service.
The Family and Children’s Services System of Care provides services to children and adolescents and their families who are experiencing extreme emotional distress. We address their behavioral health needs in the least restrictive, most family-like manner possible.

The Mental Health Call Center bridges children ages prenatal to 5 years and their families to critical and necessary services that would support their optimal gowth and development.

Gateway Program

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

A key feature of the system is its centralized point of entry through the Gateway Program, which streamlines service delivery. To receive any DADS managed care alcohol or drug services, all individuals now call Gateway for:

  • Information and referral services
  • Pre-screenings for assessment appointments

Skilled treatment personnel prescreen and refer callers to sites throughout the county for a more detailed assessment within 72 hours. These assessments match clients to the level of service they need. During treatment, managed care coordinators are available to review clients' progress with counselors and identify unmet or emerging needs. We have developed a variety of other ancillary services to assist clients not only in their recovery, but also with their ability to manage basic life skills. With these additional benefits, a single treatment episode lasts for as long as a client needs services.

Fees are based on clients' ability to pay for services. The system also accepts Medi-Cal and private insurance.
