The Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services Department (BHSD) provides services to people of all ages who suffer from severe behavioral health problems: depression, mood swings, hearing voices and panic attacks. Our behavioral health professionals offer programs and services in several languages, and are respectful of the individual’s culture.
The Behavioral Health Services Department has a network of county operated and contracted programs which include outpatient treatment and emergency behavioral health care that includes temporary hospitalization for individuals with severe mental illness.

Mental Health Call Center

The Santa Clara County Mental Health Call Center is the centralized entry point for individuals who are seeking behavioral health services in Santa Clara County.

Call Center services are available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese 24-hours, 7 days a week. General information, appointments, and referrals are available during business hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, weekends, and holidays, the Mental Health Call Center can be contacted regarding a mental health crisis that you or a family member might be experiencing.
Gateway Program

The Gateway Program is the single point of entry for a continuum of services. The Gateway Program is the Department of Alcohol & Drug Services' (DADS) central screening, information, and referral program. Those who require actual treatment services will receive a screening and referral to the most appropriate level of care.
Mental Health Urgent Care (MHUC)

MHUC is a walk-in outpatient clinic for Santa Clara County residents experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Services include screening, assessment, crisis intervention, referral and short-term treatment for adolescents and adults.

Emergency Psychiatric Services is the only 24-hour locked psychiatric emergency room, which provides emergency psychiatric care to Santa Clara County residents. Nearly all our patients are on involuntary psychiatric holds (5150’s). Services include evaluation, assessment, treatment and observation and referral to appropriate care including admission to a hospital when needed.

The Santa Clara County Suicide & Crisis Hotline is a 24-hour, toll-free confidential suicide prevention hotline available 7 days a week for phone intervention and emotional support to individuals in crisis. Highly trained volunteer crisis counselors assist people who are feeling suicidal, experiencing distress, or just need to talk with someone who will listen. Multi-lingual counselors are available.
