SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF.—Today, Deputy County Executive René Santiago announced the appointment of Paul Lorenz as Chief Executive Officer of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC), the County of Santa Clara’s 574-bed acute care hospital. Paul, whose appointment is effective November 19, has more than 19 years of executive healthcare leadership experience.
“Paul’s leadership experience in the public hospital arena will be an asset to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, especially as we prepare for Healthcare Reform and its impact on the way we provide healthcare services,” said Deputy County Executive René Santiago, Director of the Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System. “I am pleased to have him join our executive team.”
Currently, Lorenz is Chief Deputy Director for the Ventura County Health Care Agency (HCA), overseeing the Ventura County Medical Center, which includes a Level 2 Trauma 223-bed main facility, the 49-bed Santa Paula Hospital, Public Health Department and the County Inpatient Psychiatric unit. Since 2008, Lorenz has provided overall leadership and hospital direction including operational and fiscal oversight, quality of care, physician management and regulatory compliance. He manages a $600 million budget and 3,000 employees.
Since 1993, he has served in several positions with HCA, including HCA Deputy Director, Director of Public Health and Ambulatory Care Administrator. During his time as Deputy Director, Ventura County Medical Center was designated as a Level 2 Trauma Center, including a full accreditation by the American College of Surgeons.
“I have been given a wonderful opportunity to work with some incredibly talented people that are dedicated to serving the health and well-being of the entire Santa Clara County community,” Lorenz said.
Lorenz holds a Master of Business Administration from California Lutheran University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of San Diego.
Lorenz serves on several boards and commissions, including the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation Board of Directors, Hospital Association of Southern California, and the California Association of Public Hospitals.
Paul is married with two children, ages 24 and 17, and one grandchild.
His annual salary will be $251,535.33
