“Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History”

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – This month, the County of Santa Clara will join thousands of individuals and communities across the country to celebrate the month of May as “Historic Preservation Month.”

Historic Preservation Month is an annual event, instituted by the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP), a non-profit organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing our communities. It is intended to celebrate our nation’s diverse and unique heritage. People nationwide are invited to mark the occasion by participating in local and regional events throughout the month of May.

On May 1, 2012, County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution proclaiming the month of May 2012 as Historic Preservation Month in Santa Clara County. As part of its celebrations, the County Historic Heritage Commission (HHC) will host a special event “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History”, on May 17, 2012 between 5:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the County Government Center, 70 W Hedding, St., and will honor students who participated in the History Day Contest and the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County 2012 Annual History Essay Contest. The event includes a reception and display of the students’ works and address by Keynote Speaker. The Hon. Judge Paul Bernal.

“Historic Preservation Month” highlights the importance of history and historic preservation in Santa Clara County. The event, hosted by the Historic Heritage Commission, provides an opportunity for the County to honor and encourage students of Santa Clara County, as potential future historians and stewards of the County’s history and heritage. It would also acknowledge the efforts of local schools and California Pioneers of Santa Clara County, a local non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting the awareness of history through an education enrichment program.
