Santa Clara County Library District Users Welcome Access to Dozens of Magazines

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. Did you ever go to a library to check out your favorite magazine? With Santa Clara County Library District’s newest service, library card holders will now be able to get almost 100 magazines online. Zinio is the District’s latest digital service which allows users to download magazines through their library account. The Santa Clara County Library District is encouraging all library card users to take advantage of this service. Since it began on October 1st, over 500 users are now reading dozens of their favorite magazines when and where they want.
“Many parents and children will be taking time off during the next few weeks. A good option for spending time is at our libraries, which continue to bring meaningful and economically reasonable opportunities for learning and entertainment,” said County of Santa Clara Supervisor Mike Wasserman, Santa Clara County Library District Joint Powers Authority Delegate. “I am glad magazines are now part of the library online inventory for everyone to enjoy.”
Another advantage of this new digital service is that there are no overdue fines because these publications never have to be returned. Once patrons select a magazine, new issues will follow automatically.  Magazines borrowed from Zinio can be read online, downloaded to a home computer, or accessed with the Zinio application on a smart phone or tablet.
“We are now able to offer online subscriptions to almost 100 magazines, including popular titles such as Consumer Reports, Newsweek, National Geographic, and Smart Money,” said County Librarian Nancy Howe. “This means no more waiting to check out the latest issues of your favorite magazines. It’s available 24/7 so you can enjoy the full content of these publications and you do not have to visit any of our libraries.”
Zinio replicates the full color version of print magazines in a variety of subjects, including business and finance, cooking, fashion and style, gardening, health and fitness, news and current affairs. Some magazines have added features such as video or audio clips, live web links, and social media sharing functions to enhance the user experience.
