Shannon Bushey named Interim Registrar of Voters

COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA, CALIF.—Shannon Bushey, Assistant Registrar of Voters has been named Interim Registrar, effective immediately.  Bushey, a 22-year veteran with the County, began her career with the former Department of Agriculture & Weights and Measures.  For the past 17 years, she has worked for the Registrar of Voters Office.

She has managed the Candidate and Public Services Division for 14 years overseeing candidate filings, qualifying candidates to appear on the ballot, explaining election laws, codes and regulations that apply to 80 state, county, municipal, school and special district jurisdictions.  The elections span governing boards, initiatives, recalls, referendums and measures.
“Shannon has been a key manager in the Office of the Registrar of Voters,” said County Executive Jeffrey V. Smith.  “She will provide the necessary leadership to the group.”
Bushey oversaw the development and implementation of the County’s electronic filing programs that make it more convenient for candidates to meet the financial reporting requirements and give the public quicker access to their data. In addition, she has represented the ROV at court proceedings related to candidates and measures.   Bushey was appointed to Assistant Registrar of Voters in July, 2012, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department.
“We have a great team here,” said Bushey.  “Our focus will be to continue the refinements that are underway to make the voter experience in Santa Clara County convenient and efficient.”
Bushey has a Bachelor of Public Administration degree from National University.  She was born and reared in Santa Clara County.  Bushey has an adult son and a beautiful granddaughter who is almost one year old.  She loves to cook and spend as much time as possible with her granddaughter.  She also loves to spoil her two dogs and cat.
