On March 1, 2019, the County officially assumed ownership of O’Connor Hospital in San José, Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, and De Paul Health Center in Morgan Hill. The County acquired these hospitals in order prevent their closure due to bankruptcy, and to ensure the continued availability of healthcare throughout the county, including in South County.
“We are excited to bring these community hospitals into our health system as we expand and enhance the quality care that so many Santa Clara County residents have come to rely on. Our new partners share our mission, values, and passion to serve. As part of the County of Santa Clara Health System, O’Connor and Saint Louise hospitals and De Paul Health Center will continue the phenomenal work they have already been doing in their communities.”
- County Executive Jeffrey V. Smith, M.D., J.D.
The County health system that includes Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and clinics provides a wide range of specialty and other essential services and is known for offering state-of-the-art care to all patients, including the uninsured, low-income, and other vulnerable people who might otherwise have no place to turn. The addition of these hospitals to the health system will expand access for all residents to the highest quality healthcare.
As the County continues integrating Saint Louise and O’Connor Hospitals into its health care operations, we are making investments to upgrade equipment, facilities, and systems; to implement a state-of-the-art electronic health record; to expand physician call coverage; and to recruit and retain highly qualified staff.
“We have worked hard over the past few months to lay the foundation for transitioning these new facilities into the County family of health care resources. While even positive change can be challenging, we are fully invested in supporting this integration to make sure it is as smooth as possible for patients and staff.”
- Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, Paul Lorenz, who is leading the integration of the community hospitals into the County’s Health System.
The County will continue to put the highest priority on quality healthcare services and patient care.
