About the Office

In 2010, the County Board of Supervisors formalized the commitment to establish an Office of Sustainability (OOS) with policy goals to:

  • Promoting a vibrant economy.
  • Fostering a health environment, protecting resources, and/or protecting public health, safety and recreation.
  • Enhancing social equity and safety by improving neighborhood access to education, health service, housing, and food.
  • Reflecting a balanced approach and emphasis on shared interests in public policy and programs.
OOS pursues this mission with sustainability programming and by tracking twelve Environmental Stewardship Goals. In addition, OOS is currently developing a Sustainability Master Plan (SMP) to foster interdepartmental coordination across the County organization. To foster that collaboration, OOS has  launched an internal stakeholder group, the Sustainable County Working Group (SCWG) to foster interdepartmental collaboration around the development of the SMP.
