History of Health and Heritage Month

In 2015, the African/African Ancestry Health Assessment of Santa Clara County report was released. This report was completed in collaboration with the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department, The Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet of Silicon Valley (BLKC), African American Community Services Agency (AACSA), San Jose State University, the County of Santa Clara Social Services Agency, and Ujima Adult and Family Services Agency Inc. A list of nine strategies were identified in the call to action phase of the report. One of the collaborative strategies was to establish an African/African Ancestry Health Week with the goal to promote health and well-being in the African/African Ancestry community. In alignment with Black History Month, the collaborative is celebrating African/African Ancestry Health and Heritage Month in February to come together to share information and resources, answer questions, promote services, and build relationships.
