Santa Clara County, CA — Santa Clara County residents can now call 2-1-1 for information on novel coronavirus and COVID-19 thanks to a new partnership between the County of Santa Clara and 2-1-1. Residents can also receive information on novel coronavirus by simply texting the word “coronavirus” to 211211 and following the prompts provided.
“It’s important that residents get connected to the right resources as we collectively understand and respond to COVID-19,” said Dr. Sara Cody, County Health Officer. “The County partnership with 2-1-1 is a great access point for residents seeking more information about this evolving issue from informed and trained people.”
2-1-1 operators are trained professionals with experience fielding questions and providing fact-based answers. 2-1-1 phone and text services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in 150 languages through phone interpretation services. Text services are available in English and Spanish and can be initiated by texting the message “coronavirus” to 211211.
The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department has worked closely with 2-1-1 to provide information about public health guidance on how individuals, schools, and business can help slow the spread of coronavirus and other frequently asked questions. Callers can also be directed to helpful resources for answers to more detailed and specific questions. The Public Health Department still strongly advises residents to call their health care provider if they are looking for medical advice and 911 if they are experiencing an emergency.
“2-1-1 provides unmatched, critical services; 2-1-1 is a vital service leveraged by millions of people across North America,” said Kelly Batson of the United Way Bay Area. “Locally during the COVID-19 crisis, every day, clients will be able to contact 2-1-1 to access free and confidential crisis and emergency counseling, disaster assistance, food, health care and insurance assistance, stable housing and utilities payment assistance, employment services, and childcare and family services.”
In addition to information about COVID-19, 2-1-1 connects callers with local community services such as food, shelter, counseling, employment assistance, quality childcare, senior services, and more.
