The California Black Infant Health (BIH) Program has truly evolved since its inception in 1989 when the intervention was narrowly focused on ensuring that women received prenatal care. Today, the program is moving forward with an intervention strategy that aims to improve health among African American mothers and their babies by empowering pregnant and mothering women to make healthy choices for a brighter future.
Together, we can make a difference to help ensure that all babies are born healthy! Here in Santa Clara County, BIH strives to improve the problem of poor birth outcomes and health disparities in maternal and infant health by helping our women become empowered to make healthy choices for themselves, their families and their communities. Our goal is to help reduces stress, build resilience, promote healthy behaviors and increase social supports.
