Change in Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
Assembly Bill 1667 was recently enacted and became effective on January 1, 2015. This resulted in the universal TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire replacing universal TB testing (TST) for private, parochial, public k-12 school, nursery school employees, and volunteers. Now, if risk factors are identified, TB screening/testing (TST) or an interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) blood test will be required. Anyone with a positive screening test must undergo an examination to determine whether the person is free of infectious tuberculosis.
Our clinic provides the TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire and TB skin test (TST). We do not perform blood tests (IGRA) or an examination to determine that the person is free of infectious tuberculosis.
