Description of Work: The Loyola Avenue Bridge at Foothill Expressway in Los Altos will be widened 23’ on north side and 15’ on south side. This will require work in the Foothill expressway, and on Loyola Drive and adjacent streets. New construction will provide one through lane and one left-turn lane in each direction, a bike lane and a sidewalk in each direction.
In general, the structure work to be done consists of excavation for the foundation in the expressway median, building the bridge foundations and columns, partial removal of retaining walls and replacement with abutment structures, erection of precast pre-stressed concrete slabs, and replacing the barrier railings.
Signal Modification: Beginning Monday, July 13, 2015, to better organize and control traffic through the construction zone, traffic signals at the intersection of Loyola Drive/A Street and Fremont Avenue will be on flashing red light mode. The construction zone is expected to be active through October 2015. Drivers should treat the flashing red lights as a stop sign.
Construction Schedule: Spring 2015 - Summer 2016
Construction Update 6/3/2016.
The bridge project is about complete. Signals are in flash mode to maintain reduced speed until guard railing is installed along Fremont Ave. Once guard railing is installed the lights will be reset to normal operation. We expect installation of guard rail to be complete by the end of June with final completion of minor items early July.
