The Clerk-Recorder's Office maintains death records that occurred in
Santa Clara County from 1873 to present. Recent death records are
usually available form this office four (4) weeks after the event.
Bring a valid identification with cash, check or credit/debit ($2.50 convenience fee applies) for $21.00 for each certificate to:

Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- When you arrive to our office, please make your way to our Public Search area to start your request.
To expedite the process, you may use our Self Service to submit your application online. Following submission of the application, you must appear in person to finalize the issuance of the document. The application will remain online up to 15 business days.
- In most cases, orders will be processed while you wait.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Another person may bring your request to our office. Note that if that person is not an authorized party, a notarized Certificate of Acknowledgement from you is required as detailed in Obtaining a Death Certificate by Mail.
