County of Santa Clara:
The County is in receipt of a proposed product stewardship plan from the Santa Clara County MED-Project, which is a Stewardship Organization established by the Pharmaceutical Product Stewardship Work Group, a group of pharmaceutical Producers. The first product stewardship plan was submitted on October 21, 2016 and was returned with comments by the County. A revised plan was submitted on December 20, 2016 and was conditionally approved on March 20, 2017. The county expects to transition operating drop-off locations to the pharmaceutical producers by June 30, 2017. There are over 40 drop-off locations operating in the county as of March 20, 2017. The Counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz have passed similar ordinances and are cooperating on compliance by the manufacturers.
