The Santa Clara County Vector Control District District’s Mosquito-borne Virus Response and Operations Plan was presented for approval at the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday, March 29. A copy of the meeting’s agenda is available at http://preview.tinyurl.com/6bj9gxv . Documents and details can be found at number 19 in the agenda.
The comprehensive plan reflects guidelines used by the District since 2002, well in advance of the arrival of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the County in 2004. It is based on the California Department of Public Health's 2010 California Mosquito–borne Virus Surveillance and Response Plan.
WNV is currently the only significant mosquito-borne virus that has been detected in Santa Clara County since the late 1960’s, and therefore the Plan emphasizes the specific IPM measures necessary to control this virus. The Plan contains a risk assessment protocol on which to base an informed WNV suppression response.
